Cleveland Golf/Srixon relishing return to Home of Golf

Srixon Sports Europe, the leading golf manufacturer, which operates both the Cleveland & Srixon brands in the UK and Europe, returns as title sponsor of the Scottish Senior Open for the second consecutive year from August 20-22.

The 18th edition of the Cleveland/Srixon Scottish Senior Open will once again be played over the Torrance Course at Fairmont St. Andrews, which hosted the event for the first time in 2009 when Englishman Glenn Ralph captured the title.

Cleveland Golf and Srixon’s sponsorship of the tournament reflects Srixon Sports Europe’s strong association with the European Senior Tour and is an important element of the marketing strategy for brands.

Srixon is the Official Ball of the European Senior Tour and players using Srixon balls have amassed 22 victories worldwide this season, including Kevin Spurgeon’s win in the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open and Boonchu Ruagkit’s three Senior Tour titles.

Cleveland is the Official Club of the European Senior Tour and is currently focusing on 2010 as “The Year of the Wedge”, which is fitting given some of the short-game greats set to be in the field at Fairmont St Andrews.

Scottish golf fans will be hoping for the first home winner since Ryder Cup Captain Sam Torrance, who designed the Fairmont St. Andrews course, captured the title in 2006.

There have already been two Scottish winners on the European Senior Tour in 2010, with both Bill Longmuir and Gordon Brand Jnr entering the winner’s enclosure.

Greg Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Golf, said: “We have established a very strong affiliation with senior golf and are delighted to be able to return to the Home of Golf once again as the title sponsor for the Scottish Senior Open.

“This is a fantastic tournament to be involved in, with the very best senior golfers from across the world competing over the Torrance course at Fairmont St Andrews and I am certain we will see a very worthy winner capture the title at the close of three exciting days play.”

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “The Scottish Senior Open has been an integral part of the Senior Tour since the year after the Senior Tour’s inception in 1992.

“Even though the event has a great heritage, 2009 saw a number of firsts including Cleveland Golf/Srixon as the new title sponsor, Fairmont St. Andrews hosting the tournament for the first time and Glenn Ralph capturing his maiden Senior Tour title.

"Both Fairmont St Andrews and Cleveland Golf/Srixon have an agreement through to 2011, and with the ongoing support of EventScotland, we look forward to more fantastic Scottish Senior Opens in the future.”

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer of EventScotland, the national events agency said: “EventScotland’s support for the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Seniors Open is continuing evidence of our commitment to the game of golf. We are investing in a world-class portfolio of events to showcase Scotland as the Home of Golf as we build to staging The Ryder Cup in 2014.”

Charles Head, General Manager of Fairmont St Andrews, said: “Fairmont St Andrews is very excited to welcome back the Senior Tour, and the Scottish Senior Open, to the 'Home of Golf'.

“The Torrance course, following Local Final Qualifying for The Open Championship, will again prove to be a fitting test for some of Europe's most recognised and revered golfing greats.”
