History was beckoning for SSP Chawrasia as he took total control of the final round of the Hero Indian Open.
The home favourite has a remarkable record at his national Open, securing four runners-up finishes before finally claiming victory last season.
A second win in New Delhi would make him the first Indian to successfully defend a European Tour title and the first player to win their first four events in their home country.
And on another day of tough scoring at DLF Golf and Country Club, he turned in 35 to get to ten under and open up a five-shot lead over Spaniard Carlos Pigem.
Scotsman Scot Jamieson and Malaysia's Gavin Green were then at four under, with just six players under par.
Chawrasia had to return to complete seven holes of his third round in the morning after lightning delays on days one and two but showed no adverse effects as he birdied the 13th, 14th - where he chipped in - and 15th to get to nine under.
A trio of pars then followed to start the final round before the 38 year old spun his approach to the par five fourth close for a first birdie of the day.
Pigem had also started with three pars but he had to take a drop off the tee on the fourth and the resulting bogey led to a two-shot swing and a four-shot lead.
That was cut to three as the leader failed to get up and down on the sixth and while he dropped another shot on the seventh, so did Pigem after a three-putt.
Green bucked the trend in the final group by making a birdie on the seventh but after bogeys on the first and sixth, he too was three off the lead.
While the rest of the field were slipping back, Jamieson was making the big move, hitting excellent tee-shots to birdie the par three third and fifth. He dropped a shot on the next thanks to a lost ball off the tee but when he made back-to-back gains on the seventh and eighth, there was a three-way tie for second.
A smart birdie after laying up extended the advantage and with Green getting in trouble off the tee and Jamieson chipping over the green and into the water ahead on the ninth, the pressure was released again.
An excellent approach to the ninth then brought another birdie and Chawrasia was in total control.
Italy's Matteo Manassero was level par for his round at three under, two shots ahead of Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey.
