Chawrasia leads the way in India

Defending champion SSP Chawrasia maintained his two-shot lead as the final round of the Hero Indian Open got under way at DLF Golf and Country Club.

The home favourite was looking to make history in New Delhi as he aimed to become the first Indian to successfully defend a European Tour title and the first player to win their first four events in their home country.

His record at this event is remarkable, with four runners-up finishes as well as last season's victory, and he was once again leading the way on another tough day of scoring.

Chawrasia had to return to complete seven holes of his third round in the morning after lightning delays on days one and two but showed no adverse effects as he birdied the 13th, 14th - where he chipped in - and 15th to get to nine under.

A trio of pars then followed to start the final round and the 38 year old was nine under, two shots clear of Carlos Pigem.

The Spaniard also started with three pars after picking up a single shot in his remaining holes of round three.

Malaysia's Gavin Green chipped in on the 17th in the twilight on Saturday for a birdie and he picked up where he left off by birdieing the last to get to six under. He could not carry that momentum into the final round, however, and bogeyed the first to drop four off the lead.

Scotsman Scott Jamieson birdied the third to get to three under alongside Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey and Italy's Matteo Manassero, who were both level par for their first three holes.

German Marcel Siem picked up two shots in his first five holes to get to one under alongside American Peter Uihlein, with just eight players under par.
