Challengers set for Super 6

As the European Tour heads down under for the inaugural staging of the innovative ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, so do a number of the European Challenge Tour’s finest.

Ready to take on some of the world’s best golfers in a new format, which comprises of both stroke and match play, a collection of 2016 graduates and 2017 Road to Oman competitors will tee it up at Lake Karrinyup GC.

Reigning Road to Oman Rankings winner Jordan Smith will be targeting another high finish after his promising start to life as a European Tour member.

The 24 year old, who won in Egypt and Ras Al Khaimah on the Challenge Tour last season, currently sits in 18thplace in the 2017 Race to Dubai after impressive performances in Qatar and South Africa.

Also looking to kick on is Belgium’s Thomas Detry. The 24 year old, who only turned professional in June last year, claimed third place at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, his first start as a European Tour player, and is being hotly tipped to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Thomas Pieters and Nicolas Colsaerts.

Fellow graduates Joël Stalter, Pep Angles, Ryan Fox, Duncan Stewart and Damien Perrier will all also be aiming to kick-start their rookie European Tour seasons with a strong showing in Western Australia.

After narrowly falling short of a place in last year’s top 16, France’s Adrien Saddier will be keen to prove that he is capable of performing at the highest level.

The 24 year old, who finished last season just 741 points away from a European Tour card, makes his first appearance of 2017 on the Australian coast.

Also in the field this week is Saddier’s fellow countryman Julien Guerrier, along with England’s Aaron Rai, James Heath, Charlie Ford and Garrick Porteous.

Canada’s Austin Connelly, who agonisingly missed out on a European Tour card by just one shot at Qualifying School Final Stage, is also looking to make his mark this week.

The 20 year old, who chose to join the paid ranks in 2015 after taking advice from friend Jordan Spieth, has a full Challenge Tour card for 2017, and will be keen to make the most of his chance on the European Tour.
