After a week off, the Road to Mallorca returns from May 9-12 for the 25th edition of the Challenge de España. Here are three players to keep an eye on…
Form horse - Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen has won twice in his last three starts on the Challenge Tour to climb into a commanding position at the top of the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings. The Dane, who turned professional less than a year ago, has been in scintillating form, having registered those two wins and two other top tens from eight starts this term. The 24-year-old could earn automatic promotion to the DP World Tour by winning three tournaments in a single season. This week is his first opportunity to join a select few to have achieved that feat.
Local boy – Joel Moscatel
Joel Moscatel recorded his best result of the season in the UAE Challenge two weeks ago with a fourth place finish and will be hoping to build on that when he tees it up on home soil this week. The 25-year-old ended 2023 by making back-to-back cuts on the DP World Tour, which included a tied seventh place finish in the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship. After finishing 83rd in the Rankings last year, the Spaniard has shown encouraging signs that he will significantly improve on that this time around – he sits 29th through eight events.
The outsider – Oihan Guillamoundeguy
Oihan Guillamoundeguy graduated from the Alps Tour in 2023 to earn full playing privileges on the Challenge Tour for the 2024 season. The French prospect has struggled to find consistency in his six starts to date this year, however a tied fifth finish in the Delhi Challenge proved that he is more than capable of contending this season. Last year saw the emergence of countryman Tom Vaillant, who secured promotion to the DP World Tour following graduation from the Alps Tour the previous year, with 19-year-old Guillamoundeguy hoping to follow in his footsteps.
