Challenge de España: Three to Watch

The Road to Mallorca heads to Spain for the second time this season for the Challenge de España at Club de Golf Playa Serena. Here’s our three men to keep an eye on this week…

Form horse

Andersen

Jeppe Kristian Andersen arrives in Almería full of confidence after a tied second place finish last week at the Indoor Golf Group Challenge in Sweden. The 28-year-old held a one-shot lead heading into the final day at Landeryds Golfklubb but eventually finished behind German Maximilian Rottluff who secured his second European Challenge Tour title of the season. The Dane has enjoyed an impressive first season on the Challenge Tour with four top ten finishes in total and he currently sits in 26th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Andersen will be hoping for a strong performance this week to climb inside the top 20 on the Rankings as he looks to secure DP World Tour playing privileges for 2024.

Local boy

Gutierrez

Ivan Cantero Gutierrez is looking to cement his DP World Tour card for next season with victory on home soil this week. The Spaniard currently sits in 13th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings after six top ten finishes this season, including two second place results at the Abu Dhabi Challenge and recent Dormy Open in Sweden. The 27-year-old turned professional in 2017 after a stellar amateur career which saw him reach Number Three in the World Amateur Golf Rankings but has yet to taste victory on the Challenge Tour.

The Outsider

Bawden

Bradley Bawden has shown glimpses of his potential in 2023 with four top ten finishes on the Road to Mallorca. The Englishman finished sixth at the recent Dormy Open to move into 57th on the Rankings and will be hoping to build on that this week and break into the top 45.

The top 45 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings will battle it out at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final for one of 20 life-changing DP World Tour cards.
