Casey set for comeback in Miami

Paul Casey will make his long-awaited comeback from injury at next week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship.

Having fully recovered from the shoulder injury he sustained during a snowboarding accident just before Christmas, the Englishman will be making his first appearance of the 2012 campaign at Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida, which will host the second WGC event of the season for the sixth successive year.

Casey’s last appearance was at the 2011 season-ending Dubai World Championship, where he finished in a tie for 16th place to end the year in 29th position in The Race to Dubai.

The 11-time European Tour champion said: “I had to build up a bit more stamina and a bit more endurance, which is why I had to miss the Match Play last week. But the good thing is that I’m not missing any of the Majors, and I’ll be going into The Masters fresher than I’ve ever been before.

“I’ve only missed five tournaments, which isn’t a massive amount in the grand scheme of things. So in some ways I’ve been quite lucky, and I’m now looking forward to getting out there and playing some competitive golf again because I’ve really missed it. The goals are still the same, but the time period is now much shorter for me to achieve them!”

Casey’s compatriot Ian Poulter, who is suffering from pneumonia, is still hopeful of teeing up at the US$8.5million event, where American Nick Watney will defend his title.

If Poulter does tee up, there will be a total of 38 European Tour Members in the 74-man field.
