Campillo looking to maintain momentum

Jorge Campillo is hopeful he can convert the momentum from a fast finish in round three into a first European Tour title at the Volvo China Open.

After a brilliant amateur career, the Spaniard graduated from the Challenge Tour in 2011 and has finished in the top 100 on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex every season since.

His 200 events have brought him four runner-up finishes - including at this season's Maybank Championship - and he has two other top fives in 2018 to sit 13th in the Rankings.

He has brought that form with him to Topwin Golf & Country Club, with three birdies in his last four holes leaving him one off the lead heading into round four, as he looks to at last turn his prodigious talent into a victory.

"It was a good round," he said. "I started bad, didn't get the round going but a great finish that put me in a position to win tomorrow.

"The only chance I had to win the tournament was finishing well and I did so hopefully tomorrow I can play well and make a few putts like I did in the last few holes.

"I'll just keep patient and take it one shot at a time and hopefully at the end of the day I'll have a good round."

Another player hoping to turn recent good form into a maiden victory is Alexander Björk.

The Swede was 11 under alongside Campillo after arriving in Beijing off the back of a tie for third at last week's Trophée Hassan II - a third top ten of the season.

"I played really well today," he said. "I had a good chance on almost every hole on the first seven holes to make birdie and only made one. Then had good run of birdies on holes eight, nine and ten.

"My game-plan tomorrow is to just try and go out and play like how I did today. Today was some of the best ball-striking I’ve had in a long time. If I can just hole a couple more putts tomorrow then hopefully I can get close to a win."

Frenchman Julien Guerrier was the third man in a share for second after a 68 and he too is seeking his first European Tour victory.

"It was a nice round," he said. "I made just one mistake at the 15th where I made bogey which is a pity but that’s life. Otherwise my game was alright. I saved a few pars and I’ll try to take this game into tomorrow."
