Angel Cabrera stepped up his bid for a third Major title as he joined Australians Jason Day and Marc Leishman in a share of the lead at the 77th Masters Tournament.
While Tiger Woods was attempting to repair the damage caused by a two shot penalty at an incident-packed Augusta National, the Argentine advanced to six under par as he seeks a second Green Jacket.
Woods was penalised for taking an incorrect drop on the 15th hole of his second round on Friday, taking him from three under par to one under and five shots behind overnight leader Jason Day.
The World Number One, seeking a fifth Green Jacket and a first since 2005 - when he was six shots behind at halfway - began his third round with a birdie at the first to quickly cut the deficit.
But the 37 year old then bogeyed the fourth and, after a birdie at the seventh, saw another birdie putt from three feet on the eighth horseshoe around the hole and stay out.
To rub salt into the wound, another dropped shot at the next took Woods to the turn in 36 at one under - still five shots behind Day, who had started with five straight pars.
The 25 year old, looking to become the first Australian winner at Augusta, was joined by 2009 champion Angel Cabrera and compatriot Leishman.
The 1992 champion Fred Couples was on four under, along with fellow Americans Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker; as well as another Australian in Adam Scott.
Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño was the leading European a shot further back.
Woods dropped another shot at the 11th but hit back with birdies on the next two holes, only to find himself still five shots off the pace now set by Cabrera.
Cabrera, who has not won a tournament on any of golf's main tours since his victory here, had birdied the sixth, eighth and tenth take the outright lead on seven under.
Day had yet to record a birdie but had not made a bogey either, ten straight pars keeping him at six under as Matt Kuchar set the clubhouse target at four under following a 69.
