Broadhurst bidding for back-to-back Majors

Paul Broadhurst will compete for the first time as a Senior Major Champion as he heads the European charge at the US Senior Open Championship next week.

The Englishman is one of 21 European Senior Tour Members teeing it up at Scioto Country Club for the final Senior Major of the season and heads to Columbus, Ohio, full of confidence after his memorable victory at last month’s Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.

Broadhurst only turned 50 last August – after the previous staging of this event – so will be playing in the tournament for the first time, but has taken to life in Senior ranks effortlessly, being named Rookie of the Year for 2015 and this year adding two runner-up finishes to his breakthrough Major title.

Miguel Angel Jiménez, whose own bid for a maiden Major fell away on the Sunday at Carnoustie, will also feel his game is in strong enough shape to contend once again, the Spaniard’s third place behind Broadhurst his highest finish in a Senior Major.

Colin Montgomerie, winner of the event in 2014, will be bidding to make it three consecutive Major-winning years since joining senior ranks, and the Scot will hope to be refreshed, after his exertions at the Open Championship appeared to hamper his Senior Open charge.

Also in the field are Roger Chapman and Bernhard Langer, US Senior Open Champions in 2012 and 2010 respectively, with the German having finished in the top ten in all three of his Senior Tour appearances this season.

Along with Langer and Montgomerie, another successful European Ryder Cup captain will be competing as Ian Woosnam aims to add to his five Senior Tour titles with a victory on American soil for the first time since he turned 50.

John Daly will compete in his third Senior Major, having only become eligible earlier this year, and will be looking to add a Senior title to his US PGA Championship and Open Championship wins.
