Broadhurst aiming for debut delight on Sunday

Paul Broadhurst will be hoping to become a winning debutant on the European Senior Tour once again when he tees off tomorrow in the final round of The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.

The Englishman won on his first Senior Tour start last year at the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open and will be aiming to secure victory in his first appearance at this tournament.

A round of 68 on moving day has put Broadhurst within four shots of leader Miguel Angel Jiménez and he believes it could prove to be a nerve-wracking final round when the pair tee off together at 13.50.

“I’m sure he’ll [Jiménez] be as nervous as anyone,” said the 50 year old.

“He’s played lovely. I’ve hit some good shots, but then he’s followed and hit it beside me. I’ll just concentrate on my own game, try and put a number on the board and see what happens.”

Broadhurst, who made an important eight foot par save at the 18th, believes the weather could be a decisive factor in whether he can prevent Jiménez from claiming his first Senior Major Championship.

“If I can go out and shoot 66 or 67 tomorrow that might have a chance. If the weather is bad tomorrow, then 74 or 75 could be a half decent score.

“This is where you want to be playing. Carnoustie is one of my favourite links courses. So far it’s been pretty good and I’ll try and finish it off tomorrow.”
