The British Challenge Presented by Modest! Golf Management takes place at The Belfry Hotel & Resort from September 2-5 and here are three players to keep an eye on this week.
Ricardo Gouveia
Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia is on the verge of joining a very exclusive club, with one more victory set to earn him automatic promotion to the European Tour. The 2015 Challenge Tour Number One is currently second on the Road to Mallorca Rankings following his victories at the Italian Challenge and the Made in Esbjerg Challenge – Presented by FREJA & TotalEnergies. That pair of victories marks a stunning return to form for the 30-year-old, who missed the first three cuts of the year before coming third in the Dormy Open in May. This could be the week that he secures his immediate return to the European Tour.
Eduard Rousaud
Young Spaniard Eduard Rousaud is a man tipped for a big future and this week has the opportunity to return to form. The 21-year-old burst on to the scene as part of the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup and showed his prowess as an amateur in last year’s Spanish Swing, finishing in a tie for fifth in the Andalucia Challenge de España and fourth in the Andalucia Challenge de Cádiz, as an amateur. After subsequently turning professional, Rousaud secured his best finish of second place in the Irish Challenge earlier this year, losing out in a play-off to Daan Huizing. Despite having missed his last seven cuts on the Challenge Tour, Rousaud is still 45th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and still in the race to finish in the top 20.
Berry Henson
Berry Henson, of the United States, is a man with a story. A professional for 18 years, Henson has plied his trade all over the world but, after suffering a wrist injury in 2016, tried his hand at an alternative career path. He started driving for Uber while raising money for charity, found that he quite enjoyed it and, to date, has given more than 2,500 rides. The 42-year-old has made the cut on his last three European Tour appearances, including a tie for tenth at the Hero Open last month.
