Brilliant Boyd seizes the lead

Gary Boyd took a surprise lead in the Czech Open after getting his final round off to a brilliant start with four birdies in his first five holes.

The Englishman started the day six shots adrift of overnight leader Peter Hanson on six under par, but birdies on the first, second, fourth and fifth have seen him move into the lead on ten under par.

Hanson,  who will enter the all-important top nine of Europe’s Ryder Cup rankings with a win at the Prosper Golf Resort course in Čeladná, was four shots ahead going into his fourth round.

However, bogeys on the par four second, par three third and par four fourth have seen him move into second place.

Meanwhile, Simon Dyson, who would also move into an automatic Ryder Cup spot with victory, has started solidly, shooting par on the first four holes to remain eight under par.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who is eighth in the standings for Colin Montgomorie’s team, has not had such a good time on the course he co-designed and is three shots adrift off the lead after bogeying the fourth.
