Bob May to make Staysure Tour debut at Swiss Seniors Open

Bob May will make his Staysure Tour debut at the Swiss Seniors Open next month when the championship makes its much-anticipated return to Golf Club Bad Ragaz from July 5-7.

Best known for his memorable battle down the stretch with Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla, the American claimed his first career victory at the 1999 British Masters, where he fired a final round 67 on the Duke’s Course at Woburn to see off defending champion Colin Montgomerie by a single shot.

May, who turned 50 in October 2018, is enjoying his first season on the over-50s circuit and adds to what is expected to be a strong field for the 23rd annual Swiss Seniors Open, with a litany of former Ryder Cup stars and Major champions set to be in attendance.

The tournament will be the second opportunity for May to test his game against the Staysure Tour’s finest following his first Major outing on the seniors’ calendar at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in May.

“I am so excited to make my Staysure Tour debut at the Swiss Seniors Open,” May said. “The standard was so high when I played at the Senior PGA Championship, and it was great to compete against guys who are still at the top of their game.’’

A regular visitor to Europe during his time in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, the Las Vegas resident is relishing the opportunity to return to the continent.

“I had so much fun when I played in Europe in the late 1990s,” he said. “It was such a good experience, and from what I hear about the Staysure Tour, I’m sure I will add to those great memories when I return in Switzerland.”

May is the latest American to recognise the depth of the competition on the Staysure Tour, with compatriots Clark Dennis and Dan Olsen just two of several players who competed alongside May on the US PGA Tour during the late 1990s and early 2000s now choosing to regularly tee it up on this side of the Atlantic.

‘’We are delighted to have Bob May confirmed for the Swiss Seniors Open, which year-after-year proves to be one of the most popular events on the Staysure Tour calendar,’’ commented Head of the Staysure Tour Mark Aspland.

‘’ The announcement further demonstrates the appeal of the Staysure Tour, not only for Europe’s finest but also for the world’s top seniors.

‘’Golf fans have great memories of May’s final round, and the play-off, with Tiger Woods during the 2000 US PGA Championship and we look forward to watching him compete against Europe’s top senior players next month at Golf Club Bad Ragaz.”

The Swiss Seniors Open gets underway at Golf Club Bad Ragaz from July 5-7, 2019.
