Blaauw sets challenging clubhouse mark

South Africa's Jacques Blaauw carded a brilliant final round of 61 to set the clubhouse target in the Tshwane Open on Sunday.

Blaauw began the day five shots off the lead but fired nine birdies and no bogeys to equal the course record and charge into contention for his first European Tour title.

At 13 under par the 29 year old enjoyed a one shot lead over compatriot and Pretoria Country Club member George Coetzee, Spain's Adrian Otaegui and Scotland's Craig Lee, who had all been part of a six-way tie for the lead overnight.

Coetzee and Lee both got off to slow starts with five straight pars before making birdies at three of the next four holes, with Lee also missing from four feet on the eighth.

Otaegui had fared even worse initially with a bogey on the first, but bounced back with four birdies in the next five holes and saved par on the ninth despite almost shanking his pitch to the green.

South African pair Ockie Strydom and Erik van Rooyen were three shots off the lead on ten under.

Blaauw had a long wait in the clubhouse to see if his total would be good enough, but did not have to wait long to see Coetzee join him on 13 under with a birdie on the tenth.

Lee's hopes suffered a blow when he failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker on the 11th to drop back to 11 under, with Otaegui falling to ten under with dropped shots on the 11th and 13th.
