Björn extends advantage

Thomas Björn doubled his lead to two shots over the opening holes of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy final round.

The Dane birdied his last three holes in the third round to sneak one in front of Austria's Markus Brier overnight, and five consecutive pars proved enough to extend his advantage when play resumed.

Brier initially pulled level on 11 under with a birdie at the par five opener, but bogeys at the second and fourth left the sponsor's invite with work to do.

Defending champion Robert Karlsson had dropped two shots to surrender third place, with 2009 winner Alvaro Quiros, his compatriot Rafael Cabrera Bello and England's David Howell taking over the chase at seven under.

Björn parred his way to the turn and went four clear when Brier dropped yet another stroke at the short eighth.

That allowed Howell and Quiros to move into a tie for second spot on seven under, while Martin Kaymer's hopes of the top-two finish he needed to replace Lee Westwood as World Number One effectively ended when he double-bogeyed the 12th.

A birdie on the hole would have lifted the German into the top ten at four under, but instead he fell back to joint 26th.
