Björk proud of week at Walton Heath

Alexander Björk was delighted to be back in contention on a Sunday after pushing Eddie Pepperell all the way on an enthralling final day of the Sky Sports British Masters.

The Swede claimed a maiden European Tour title earlier in the season at the Volvo China Open but arrived at Walton Heath Golf Club having not made the weekend in five of his last six events.

He entered the final day three shots behind Pepperell but birdied the second and fifth and when the Englishman three-putted the ninth, the lead was down to just one.

A remarkable hole-out eagle from Pepperell on the tenth extended the advantage back to three but bogeys on the 15th and 16th meant Björk was just one back stood on the last tee.

His first shot was wayward and the resulting bogey meant he finished two shots behind winner Pepperell, but the 28 year old was happy with his week's work.

“I'm very pleased,” he said. “It was just one guy beating me and it was that week. Another weekend, it's a win.

“If you're up there and fighting for the victory it's always really good so I'm happy but a little disappointed, of course.

“I'm really proud of myself, the way I fought it today, never gave up and just kept going.

“It's tough in these conditions and sometimes it can get over and you can get the grumps and you don't really like it. But I was trying to stay positive and just see opportunities and just trying to catch him and I was close in the end but not close enough.”
