Bjork on song to climb Rankings

Alexander Bjӧrk is hoping to continue his assault on the Road to Oman Rankings with another good performance on Finnish soil in this week’s Vierumӓki Finnish Challenge.

The Swede enjoyed a top ten finish in the event last year – albeit at a different course to this week’s host venue, Vierumӓki Resort – and has been one of the Challenge Tour’s form players in 2016.

The 26 year old secured a maiden victory at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge last month and is currently sixth on the Road to Oman. And, despite missing the cut in his home event last week, Bjӧrk is confident in his game heading into the final few months of the season.

“It’s tough this year, tougher than ever I think,” he said. “I probably need another win, or a few good finishes, to stay inside the top 15 so I just have to stay patient and wait for it to happen again.

“No-one’s been running away with it – in the seasons before there have usually been one or two guys running away with it, but it’s tight this year.

“I’m trying to focus on the top of the Rankings. I’m only about 10,000 points behind, which is one good week, so that’s the target. It’s easier to play that way, chasing them down, rather than focusing on the top 15. I don’t want to start worrying about making cuts, I want to chase good results and being at the top.

“My form has been good, and a lot of people said the win wasn’t that surprising, but it was a bit of a surprise to me – there’s quite a difference between coming in the top five and winning, so that was great to achieve it finally.

“Becoming a Challenge Tour winner has just about sunk in. I’m just trying to continue that same form for the rest of the season now. I’m in a good position in the Rankings and am feeling very comfortable with my game.”
