Bjerregaard building confidence at Cazoo Classic

Lucas Bjerregaard was delighted to keep building his confidence as he continued his recent resurgence on day two of the 2021 Cazoo Classic.

After claiming European Tour wins in 2017 and 2018, the Dane broke into the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking and achieved two top 20s in Major Championships in 2019, also making the semi-finals of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play with a victory over Tiger Woods along the way.

But that was his last European Tour top ten up until last week's Hero Open, where he held the lead after 36 holes thanks to a second round 62.

He carded a 71 in the second round at London Golf Club to sit at six under and after jumping 200 places to World Number 760 last week, the 29-year-old was looking to maintain his momentum.

“It was nice last weekend, it was the first time in a while I’ve been up there," he said. "I didn’t play my best but it was nice to be there and I’m just gaining a little bit of confidence every day so hopefully I continue that over the next couple of days.”

Bjerregaard carded a 67 on day one but was moving backwards after bogeys on the tenth, 11th and 17th saw him turn in 39.

He looked a different man on the front nine, however, picking up shots on the first, fourth, eighth and ninth to keep himself right in the mix.

“I didn’t get off to a good start," he said. "Hit a couple of poor iron shots and, to be honest, putted really poorly in the first five or six holes but then I started to play really well after that.

"On the front nine I played lovely, hit some good drives and good iron shots, didn’t quite make all the putts that I wanted to but it was nice to turn it around and obviously nice to finish with a birdie on the last.

“It makes a big difference shooting under instead of even level par or one over, so that’s certainly going to make lunch taste a little bit better."
