Birdie blitz from Murray

Scotland’s George Murray applied some pressure at the top of the leaderboard in the Mugello Tuscany Open, carding a three under par 68 in Italy.

Murray fired five birdies in six holes after the turn in his third round following a one over par front nine of 36.

The 26 year old dropped shot on the first hole and the eighth, with a birdie on the sixth in between, before the birdie blitz on the back nine, which was only curtailed by a bogey on the last hole.

He finished on three under par for the tournament, as did ALLIANZ Open Côtes d’Armor Bretagne winner Sam Walker who also shot a 68, but it is overnight leaders Floris De Vries and Nicolas Meitinger who continue to set the pace at UNA Poggio dei Medici Golf Club.

Both players started the day on seven under par and quickly moved to eight under, with Dutchman De Vries recovering from a bogey on the second hole to post consecutive birdies whileGerman Meitinger picked up his shot on the third.

However, De Vries then dropped a shot on the seventh and Meitinger bogeyed the eighth as both players reached the turn in level par for their rounds.

Spaniard Javi Colomo was one under par for his front nine to move to five under par for the tournament and ensure the leading pair did not put too much ground between themselves and the rest of the field. He was level with former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart, who was even par for his round after the ninth.
