Leading Scottish Youth Organisation, The Tullochan Trust, was today presented with a cheque for £25,500 from The Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond Golf Club, a record amount raised at the tournament for any Official Charity.
The Tullochan Trust is an independent charity operating in West Dunbartonshire in one of Scotland’s most deprived areas and tackles the social exclusion of over 400 young people aged 9-17 annually. It was nominated earlier this year as the Official Charity for the 2010 event.
The donation consisted of funds raised by The European Tour from the Pro-Am, The Barclays Scottish Open Grand Prize Draw, the Tour Players’ Foundation, the charitable foundation of The European Tour, and a significant donation from Barclays, the tournament’s main sponsor, that more than doubled this figure to make the final total and Tim Peat, Managing Director of Barclays Capital, presented the cheque to a delighted Fiona Stuart, Founder & President of The Tullochan Trust.
She said: “Tullochan relies heavily upon voluntary financial donations and backing from companies and events similar to The Barclays Scottish Open to raise the £1million required annually, just to maintain existing levels of support. We are extremely grateful for this most generous support from The Barclays Scottish Open, which will have a significant impact on our work with vulnerable people. I would also like to say a very special thanks to Niall Flanagan, President of Loch Lomond Golf Club, for putting forward Tullochan as a possible charity for the event.”
Tim Peat added: “The Tullochan Trust does a huge amount of work to help deprived youngsters in West Dunbartonshire and we are delighted to be able to offer our support to such a worthy local cause.”
Other sponsors and supporters of the tournament including Ballantine’s, UPS, Laurent-Perrier, Loch Lomond Golf Club, Ping, Cameron House on Loch Lomond, SIMS Automatics, Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, Frame Taylor and EA Sports, all pledged their support by offering prizes for the Grand Prize Draw.
