Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to put a dampener on proceedings, the Barclays Charity Birdie Pledge saw over £16,000 donated to Action for Children – Scotland by Barclays Capital during the first two rounds of the Barclays Scottish Open.
Barclays Capital generously pledged a donation of £10 for every birdie, £50 for every eagle and £100 for every albatross scored during the Championship at the start of the week, with all proceeds going to the Official Charity of the Barclays Scottish Open.
Despite the fact the tournament was reduced to 54 holes, the European Tour players’ combined excellence on the Castle Stuart Golf Links helped raise £16,110 as of 2pm on the final day. And, with birdies and eagles set to fly in during the rest of the final round, it is hoped that Barclays Capital’s donation will surpass the £20,000 mark.
Speaking on behalf of Action for Children – Scotland, Ann Darlington – Group Manager Child Services Scotland – said: “We would like to sincerely thank Barclays, The European Tour and all of the players who have played so well to help us raise this tremendous amount of money for Action for Children – Scotland.
“This money will go a long way towards helping underprivileged and neglected children across the country, and we are extremely grateful for the fundraising efforts of everyone involved at the Barclays Scottish Open.”

Action for Children works with vulnerable, disadvantaged, abused, neglected children, young people and their families. In the Highlands alone, they have ten services running concurrently in Inverness (2), Nairn, Forres, Alness & Dingwall, Elgin, Lochaber, Buckie & Aberdeen.
