The second week of the European Challenge Tour’s stint in South Africa sees the Road to Mallorca head to the Mother City for the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open. Here’s what you need to know before the action begins on Thursday…
One tournament, two venues...
This week’s event takes place across two of Cape Town’s best golf courses; Royal Cape Golf Club and Rondebosch Golf Club. One half of the field will tee it up at either course on the opening day, before switching for round two. Following the second round cut, the weekend will be played on Royal Cape before the winner is crowned on Sunday. Royal Cape is the oldest golf club in South Africa, established in 1885. The venue, which sits in the shadow of Table Mountain, has staged ten South African Opens, including the 1965 edition of the event, which was won by nine-time Major Champion Gary Player. Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman and Mark McNulty have also triumphed at the venue.
Epic scenery...
Both of this week’s courses are home to arguably the most stunning backdrop on the 2022 Road to Mallorca. Royal Cape and Rondebosch are both located in the shadow of Table Mountain, one of the New7 Wonders of Nature. The iconic mountain features a flat plateau which welcomes 4.2 million visitors per year, with tourists making the trip to the summit either via the cableway or, for the more adventurous, hiking.
Enjoy a drink…
