The Road to Mallorca visits Europe for the first time this season with the B-NL Challenge Trophy taking place at Twentsche Golfclub in the Netherlands. Here are three men to keep an eye on…
Form horse
Manuel Elvira has made the cut every time he’s teed it up this year and has registered three top tens in the process, including a tied second place at The Challenge presented by KGA in March. The Spaniard has come close to winning on the Challenge Tour on several occasions in recent years, and most recently led after three rounds at the UAE Challenge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. Despite having a final round to forget, he has regularly been in contention. It’s surely a matter of time before the 26-year-old comes out on top.
Local boy
Lars van Meijel could be the ‘form horse’ in this week’s three to watch. The Dutchman had an outstanding UAE swing, finishing in tied seventh in the Abu Dhabi Challenge before producing his best finish of the season so far in the UAE Challenge, finishing tied third. In fact the 28-year-old has finished inside the top ten on his last three outings to catapult himself into tenth place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. On home soil, he’ll be looking to add to his sole Challenge Tour win which came at the Hopps Open de Provence back in 2019.
The outsider
Henric Sturehed arrives in the Netherlands having made four of eight cuts so far this season with the Swede’s best finish coming at the Duncan Black Bull Challenge where he finished 18th. This week, Twentsche Golfclub will provide a different challenge to the one that faced him in the UAE where he missed both cuts. The Dutch course is shorter in length, with narrow fairways and complex greens. He’ll be hoping it suits his eye.
