averda partners with the DP World Tour Championship to achieve a ‘green’ golf tournament

For the fourth year in a row, averda, the leading integrated environmental solutions company in the Middle East and North Africa, is the waste management partner of the DP World Tour Championship (DPWTC).

“We were impressed by averda’s programme last year to encourage and educate golf enthusiasts on recycling. Their efforts are and continue to be in line with the European Tour’s Green Drive campaign, which aims to minimise the impact on the environment. averda’s team demonstrates their commitment to the environment and they continue to meet our high European standards on sustainability. This is one of the many reasons why we are happy to partner with averda for another year.” stated Damian Turner, The European Tour Operations Director in Dubai.

During the DPWTC 2013 event last year, averda worked closely with the event organisers, vendors and participants to spread awareness on the best practices of recycling. With the help of the attendees and volunteers, averda recycled over five tonnes of plastic bottles and aluminium cans, and reused fifteen tonnes of biodegradables.

This year averda will be providing 150 coloured bins throughout the venue to collect more recyclable items. The coloured bins, green bins for organic waste and black bins for disposable waste, will help attendees separate their waste with little effort.

averda will also be installing the Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) at the event venue this year. The machines were developed to educate and inspire individuals to recycle while being rewarded in the process. The RVM machines were installed throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and retrieved over 1.2 million recyclables across the region. During the golf tournament event last year, 50,000 attendees returned 75,000 bottles and cans to the machine, and 500 averda branded golf balls were given as a reward to those who participated.

“averda is committed to making our community a better place to live with our environmental awareness programmes and recycling solutions. We believe that even during fun sporting events there is an opportunity to engage and involve the esteemed public to do their part in reducing waste to landfill. Through increasing understanding of environmental best practices in communities, we believe we can change consumer behaviour towards recycling and support the UAE in achieving its goal of green status by 2030.” said Jeroen Vincent, Chief Operating Officer of the GCC for averda.
