Avantha Masters trophy unveiled

The stunning Avantha Masters trophy was unveiled at a press conference at DLF Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

R-L: Paul McGinley, SSP Chowrasia and David Horsey

The heavy trophy, which is covered in Swarovski crystals, was presented to the media after officials from The European Tour, Asian Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India – the three tours tri-sanctioning the Avantha Masters – spoke about the event.

Yogesh Agarwal from the Avantha Group, Htwe Hla Han, Director of Business Development for the Asian Tour, Padamjit Sandhu, the Director of the PGTI and Richard Hills, The European Tour’s Ryder Cup Director, were joined by players Paul McGinley of Ireland, Englishman David Horsey and defending champion SSP Chowrasia of India.

Sandhu said: “Each year the tournament is progressing and it is now the most prestigious event on Indian soil. It is starting to attract big names in golf, and we are lucky to have great support from our sponsors and suppliers.

“We are very grateful to Avantha for their support, and in IMG, the promoters of the tournament, we have a world-class partner.”

Hills said: “India is a very important market for The European Tour and we give thanks to Avantha for their sponsorship and to DLF Golf and Country Club for hosting us for a third year running. We wish DLF well in the construction of the new nine holes.

“In the PGTI and the Asian Tour we have great partnerships and it is a pleasure to work with them.

“Good luck to SSP on the defence of his title this week. His participation as a European Tour Member means a lot to us.”

Han added: “There is a very exciting future ahead for Indian golf. The Avantha Masters has a significant place on the Asian Tour schedule as it has the largest prize fund of €1.8million.

“I believe the terrific growth will continue, and we thank our sponsors for their vision and commitment which makes the Avantha Masters such a great success.”
