Philip Archer was leading the way when the final group reached the turn on the final day of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic as he stayed steady with a one under par front nine to move to seven under while the leaders fell behind.
Archer managed to negotiate the tough opener with a par before picking up a shot on the second and then exchanging a birdie and a bogey on the seventh and eighth holes, respectively, to put the two time Challenge Tour winner one shot clear.
In more difficult conditions than Saturday, overnight leader Nick Dougherty got off to the worst possible start when his drive on the first went out of bounds and he was forced to play a second, which found the fairway.
The three time European Tour winner almost managed to salvage an unlikely bogey after his third shot found sand but his superb bunker shot stopped just centimetres from the hole.
Dougherty didn’t let his first hole get him down too much as he made eight successive pars to reach the turn in 38 but he would need to build some momentum if he were to claim a dream win on his Challenge Tour debut as he was two shots back.
Another Englishman, 20 year old Chris Lloyd, was making a real charge to the top as birdies at the second, third, fourth, 11th and 12th more than atoned for an opening bogey to take him to four under through 12 holes and six under for the tournament, just a shot behind Archer.
Michael Lorenzo-Vera, Matt Haines, Morton Orum Madsen, who broke the course record with a 66 on the third day, were all in tied third alongside Dougherty.
Tyrell Hatton, meanwhile, was finding the going tough after entering the final day of his Challenge Tour debut just one shot off the lead as he was five over par through nine.
