An and Evans make US Open Championship field

European Tour Members Byeong Hun An and Ryan Evans have secured a place in the final  156-player US Open Championship field at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

An, along with Emiliano Grillo, was one of the final two exemptions to be added to the field on the current Official World Golf Ranking list.

Ranked Number 57 in the world, the former BMW PGA Championship winner will be making his fifth start in golf’s second Major Championship of the year, where he will be looking to emulate his success at the US Amateur, which he captured in 2009 at the age of 17.

The USGA held six spots in the field for those players who could potentially qualify by moving into the top 60 of the OWGR, as of June 11. Since An and Grillo were the only players to move into the top 60, this allowed four alternates from sectional qualifying to be added to the field, one of which was Evans.

The Englishman was the first alternate from the England sectional qualifier held at Walton Heath. With eight top ten finishes on the Challenge Tour in 2017, including a victory at the Turkish Airlines Challenge, Evans has enjoyed quite a rise in the last 12 months.

The other three alternates that make up the field at Shinnecock Hills are Rikuyo Hoshino, Scott Piercy and Ted Potter Jr.
