It’s Independence Day and some of the biggest stars in American golf are preparing to travel across the Atlantic to tee it up as part of a stellar field at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open – and fans can buy tickets to see them in action from just £15HERE.
World number seven Rickie Fowler is returning to Gullane Golf Club on July 12-15, 2018 – the scene of his 2015 Scottish Open victory – alongside 12 of his countrymen, all aiming to get their hands on the silver quaich trophy.
Masters Tournament champion Patrick Reed is making his third consecutive appearance at the event, which is part of the Rolex Series - the premium category of tournaments on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, each with a minimum prize fund of US$7million.
Bringing further star power to Scotland’s Golf Coast is five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson, who returns for his 15thappearance as he aims to repeat his winning formula of 2013. Mickelson’s Scottish Open win that year was his first victory on British soil, and the celebrations continued the following week when another magnificent performance on the links secured his fifth Major title in The Open Championship at Muirfield – just a few miles along the coast from Gullane.
The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open once again takes its traditional slot in the week before The Open Championship, with six of the last eight players to lift the Claret Jug having played in Scotland’s national open the previous week.
Another American star hoping to add to those statistics is Matt Kuchar, who last year followed up a tied fourth place finish at the Scottish Open with a runner up spot at Royal Birkdale the next week.
Four-time PGA Tour winner Charley Hoffman and compatriots Kevin Chappell and Luke List are all making their Scottish Open debuts in Gullane this July.
They will join six players who fly the Stars and Stripes on this side of Atlantic as members of the European Tour.
Julian Suri also makes his Scottish Open debut, after recording his best finish in a Rolex Series event at the HNA Open de France earlier this year - finishing tied second behind Alex Noren – and looking to add to the Made in Denmark title he won last season.
He is joined by another European Tour winner in Peter Uihlein, whose recent rich vein of form sees him sitting just outside of the world’s top 50.
The 2017 Australian PGA Championship winner Harold Varner III will also take to the Scottish links for the first time, alongside 2014 Omega European Masters winner David Lipsky and compatriots Daniel Im and Chase Koepka, both of whom are seeking a maiden European Tour victory.
The American contingent join a world-class international field in Gullane for the fifth Rolex Series event of the season. Spanish Ryder Cup star Rafa Cabrera Bello returns to defend his Scottish Open title alongside World Number Three and 2014 winner Justin Rose of England, and Swedish Major winner Henrik Stenson. Also teeing it up are the reigning Race to Dubai champion Tommy Fleetwood, recent Rolex Series tournament winner Thorbjørn Olesen of Denmark and Chinese star Haotong Li, alongside a who’s-who of Major champions including South African Ernie Els, Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and Martin Kaymer of Germany.

This year’s tournament is supporting two official charities: The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Leuchie House. My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was launched by one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities, Doddie Weir, and his trustees following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease to raise funds to aid research into the causes of the disease and investigate potential cures. Leuchie House, a charity local to Gullane Golf Club, is Scotland’s only dedicated respite centre and offers caring respite breaks to people with long term neurological conditions, including motor neurone disease.
