The 19 year old picked up a shot on the second hole then fired three consecutive birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes to reach 16 under par at the turn in his final round.

Wattel is looking to follow in the footsteps of Dane Andreas Hartø, who won the ECCO Tour Championship in Germany last month.

He was joined at the summit at Golf de la Wantzenau by Spaniard Alvaro Velasco who birdied the fifth and ninth holes, dropping a shot on the sixth.  Velasco is chasing his second victory of the season following his win in the Fred Olsen Challenge de España.

Overnight leader Lorenzo Gagli slipped back after a four over par front nine that consisted of two double bogeys, two bogeys and two birdies.
