Louis Oosthuizen produced one of the greatest shots in Masters Tournament history to roar into the lead during the final round at Augusta National.
The South African, third overnight behind Peter Hanson and Phil Mickelson, hit a long iron approach to the par five second which rode the contours of the green to the bottom of the cup for an albatross two.
It launched the 2010 Open Champion to ten under par, and a two shot lead.
Swede Hanson bogeyed the first after missing the green right with his approach then chipping off the other side, and was tied with Mickelson on eight under as a result.
There were two further shots back to Bubba Watson in fourth, the American left-hander bogeying the first but using his big-hitting capabilities to birdie the next.
Oosthuizen’s heroics produced an almighty roar from the crowd that seemed to go on for ever , and rightly so after the first albatross on the hole in Masters Tournament history.
Not that Oosthuizen was the only player holing outrageous shots - American Bo Van Pelt and Australian Adam Scott both aced the par three 16th, Van Pelt en route to a brilliant 64 that was only one off the course record.
He finished one under for the week, while Scott - last year’s runner-up - was three under for the tournament with two to play.
