AAM Paul Lawrie Match Play - What they said

The Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play has reached the quarter-finals after a dramatic day of action at Archerfield.

Alejandro Cañizares

We caught up with the winners from the last-16 to find out what they thought of their performances and their hopes for the rest of the tournament.

Alex Noren- beat Nacho Elvira 2 and 1

"I love these kind of courses and links golf. I came here with a good attitude to enjoy the course and to enjoy match play golf as we don't play it too often. It's obviously really nice to be back in Scotland so soon after winning the Scottish Open because when you have had a recent win it can help the confidence when it gets a little tight. You know you have won recently and have the confidence to know you can perform under pressure.

James Morrison- beat Michael Hoey 4 and 3

"I haven't gone past the 16th tee yet, so I guess it's just crucial to keep going forward. When you get to two or three down, it's very hard to come back, especially at this level when everyone here can win a golf tournament or any match play event. It's a scoreable golf course, so you know you can make birdies and you've got to keep going forward."

Alejandro Cañizares- beat Matthew Fitzpatrick 4 and 3

"I've played really well this afternoon. I started out strong, I didn't miss many shots. I hit the ball a lot better in the morning, a lot more solid, and I made some good putts. I was very pleased with the way I played. I kept it going. I never stopped pushing and I had to play great against a guy like Matt because he doesn't miss many shots. I'm really happy in the end to beat him."

Maximilian Kieffer- beat Daniel Brooks 2 and 1

"I think we were both maybe a little tired this afternoon. We were both not on our A Game but I think we still managed to make more birdies than bogeys, so it wasn't that bad. I'm just happy to advance. It was a hard battle. If you want to get through here, you're not going to have a great run of golf every single time. So I'm happy that maybe though it wasn't the best of my game, I still managed to advance today."

Anthony Wall- beat Richard Green one up

"I always thought it would be a tough game. He's a terrific player and super putter. Obviously, I'm really pleased to get through. He came back at me at the end and I managed to hang on and do him in an extra hole. That was a really, really good game. It's tough, isn't it? Every day you're playing someone different and you feel different, so you just have to take each game. But I've played better every day and every round, so that's encouraging."

Oliver Fisher - beat Richie Ramsay 3 and 1

"It's a good win. Richie is a steady player, Richie is a good player and great match player. I'm delighted to beat him. I was fortunate enough to get off to a good start. Rolled a nice 20-footer in on the first and that gave me a little bit of confidence. I putted the front nine well. I holed some nice putts on the front nine. I was three up at the turn. That gives you a little bit of a cushion going into the back nine."

Haydn Porteous

Johan Carlsson - beat Chris Paisley 4 and 3

"I felt in the beginning of the week that I was hitting the ball really well, so my expectations were quite high going into the tournament. I'm just really glad that I got it going and proved my point a little bit there when it felt good, managed to play well. I played really well, Chris played solid. I thought I had a little bit of an advantage there. I was two up quite early and then he got in on a birdie run. Then it was all game again."

Haydn Porteous- beat Marc Warren one up

"To come back from three down, it gave me a lot of momentum and gave me the positive vibes that I needed for the back nine. I hit a few really good drives out there to put the pressure on Marc. It was a good round, it was a tough match and you always know it's going to be a tough match when you're playing against a Scotsman in Scotland. But fair play to the spectators, they were awesome and they gave me the odd clap or two for when I deserved it. It was an awesome day."
