56˚ Open de Portugal @ Morgado Golf Resort: In Numbers

The European Challenge Tour heads to Portugal this week and here are ten key statistics from the 56˚ Open de Portugal @ Morgado Golf Resort.

First – following the opening three Challenge Tour events, Matt Wallace claimed victory at last year’s dual ranking Open de Portugal and in doing so claimed his first European Tour win.

63 – the lowest round recorded at the Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort was by the 2017 winner Wallace. He carded a ten under par opening round which included five consecutive birdies on the back nine.

One – hole-in-one at last season’s event. Charlie Ford holed out on the 205-yard 11thduring his second round. It was Ford’s first hole-in-one of his career.

Four –bogeys in 72 holes were Wallace’s only blemishes on his card all week on his way to the 2017 title.

7347 –the length of the Morgado Golf Resort course. The 7347-yard course incorporates four par threes and four par fives, including the 16thwhich is 624-yards long.

Two –the number of Major winners who played in last season’s tournament. The 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie and the 2003 Masters winner Mike Weir. Lawrie finished tied 59thwhilst the Canadian failed to make the cut.

103 –the amount of bogeys recorded at the 260-yard par three 17thin the 2017 event – the hardest hole during the tournament. Even though the fifth hole had more bogeys, players gave away more shots to the 17thwith five double bogeys and only 39 birdies.

13– Portuguese players will take part in this week’s event – a national participation record for the tournament.

Five – the 56˚ Open de Portugal @ Morgado Golf Resort is the fifth Challenge Tour event of the year.

23 – different countries will be represented at the tournament, including players from Iceland, Slovakia, and South Africa.
